Hong Kong media guru Yang Lan is holding a charity ball to raise money for 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, which are scheduled to kick off in Shanghai in October.
The ball will be held in Shanghai on January 13. It promises to be a star-studded night, with a number of high-profile officials, celebrities and entrepreneurs on the guest list.
The President of the Special Olympics Shanghai, Dr Shi Derong, and scholar Yu Qiuyu will attend the event. A lineup of entertainers, including Fei Xiang, Qin Yi and Song Xiaopo, are scheduled to perform.
All the proceeds from the ball will go directly into a special fund for the 2007 special olympics. As well as the ticket sales, money will be raised through a special charity auction on the night. Works from Yang Lan's personal art collection and souvenirs from Arnold Schwarzenegger, Special Olympics' global ambassador, will be among the items up for sale.
The 2007 Special Olympics aim to celebrate the abilities and accomplishments of people with intellectual and physical disabilities, and forge a new global vision of the acceptance of the diversity of people's abilities across the globe.
Yang Lan's Sun Culture Foundation, the 2007 Special Olympics Committee and the Jiefang Daily Group will jointly host the charity ball.
