Popular mainland actress Sun Li was selected as a candidate for the Third National Top Ten Social Commonweal Stars for her great contribution to social services, Sina.com reports on Wednesday.

The actress came to the spotlight for her prime role in TV series and since then has kept a good image through diligent works.

After acting in action star Jet Li's film "Fearless", which won her great fame, Sun devoted herself into the course of collecting money for the blind children inspired by her role in the movie, a roseate blind girl.

She also joined the "One Foundation", initiated by Jet Li, as a volunteer. In an auction organized by the foundation, she spent 60,000 yuan on 3 children paintings and donated another 30,000 yuan.

Being the ambassador for the Shanghai Small Animal Protection Association, Sun has recently published a book promoting care and attention for small animals.

For all her efforts in social affairs, Sun has been acknowledged by the public as an "angel" and won her entry to the top ten commonweal stars.

The award, launched in 2003, has been co-held successfully every two years for 2 sessions by China Association of Social Workers, Red Cross Society of China, China Charity Federation and other social welfare organizations.
