Stars to lighten charity banquet for 'Smile Angel'
Adjust font size:

Around 50 Chinese entertainment stars are expected to attend a charity banquet in Shanghai Friday night to raise money for disfigured children.

Hong Kong star Faye Wang (L-1) went shopping in Shanghai on December 6, 2007, ahead of a charity banquet held by her Smile Angel Foundation, which aims to raise money for children with cleft palates.

They are invited by celebrity couple Faye Wang and Li Yapeng, who launched the Smile Angel Foundation, also known as the Yanran Angel Foundation, in 2006 to help children with cleft palates.

The charity gala is the second thrown by the foundation after a Christmas dinner last year, which collected 8.45 million yuan in donations, according to domestic portal website sohu.com.

Big names on the guest list include Hong Kong diva Carina Lau, Hong Kong singer Eason Chen, mainland actress Vicky Zhao and singer Na Ying.

The stars will be accompanied by around 350 other social celebrities, including business tycoons and famous athletes.

The highlight of the event will be a charity auction; the items up for offer will be art works, unlike the luxury goods of last year's event.

Faye Wong and Li Yapeng welcomed their first daughter in May 2006; the little girl, named Li Yan, was born with a harelip.

The couple later took Li Yan for treatment in the United States and set up the Smile Angel Foundation.
