Rising Chinese actor Xia Yu was invited to visit the UK's BedZED, or Beddington Zero Energy Development, eco-community to experience the green lifestyle there, Sina.com.cn reported on Thursday.

The visit is one of the activities planned for the actor's one-week stay in the UK, the report said. He will also tour some environmentally friendly factories at the invitation of the British embassy.

Xia, winner of the 1994 Best Actor award at the Venice International Film Festival and spokesman for the "green life" concept, is considered the perfect person for the tour for his public influence and excellent English language skills, the report said.

"Hopefully I can draw some experience on the energy-saving methods and eco-friendly lifestyles, and introduce them to China," Xia said.
