Qi Chunfeng, a farmer who lost the ability to work after a black bear bit his face November 2006, received 93,000 yuan (about US$12,900) in compensation on Monday from authorities in Huadian, Jilin Province.
Qi used the money to get plastic surgery and to set up a small business to support his family.
The payout was the second largest sum to be given to the victim of a wild animal attack. There were 997 such attacks last year, resulting in 2.47 million yuan worth of compensation payments.
