Nanchang, the capital of east China's Jiangxi Province, plans to invest one billion yuan (about US$120 million) in the coming two years to upgrade its outdated drainage system.
The city has been plagued with seasonal floods in the downtown districts, due to backward drainage facilities.
The city government will hold a hearing to seek for opinions from representatives of local residents on the upgrading project.
Meanwhile, as the flooding season is approaching, the city government has worked out temporary plans for resolving possible problems caused by heavy rains.
