If you're not a millionaire, then stop polluting the water because you may end up paying a huge fine.

That's according to the latest regulation drafted by Hangzhou city in east China's Zhejiang Province to protect its 200 drinking water sources. These water reserves are under threat of pollution due to illegal discharging of domestic and industrial pollutants.

Economic punishments are ranging from the lowest 5,000 yuan (US$600) to the highest 200,000 (US$24,150) for each warning; no matter whether it's for individuals or business. The city has also shut down hundreds of plants for not being able to reach official waste-water discharge standards. Farmers, who fish in the nearby rivers and lakes, are not allowed to raise poultry and livestock on their boats as they also pollute the water and can spread disease.
