The Press Office under the Ministry of Health published Sunday afternoon a press release on the latest SARS situation on the Chinese mainland. On May 11, 14 provinces reported new SARS cases, of which, 6 provinces reported both new cases and new suspected cases, 1 province reported new cases and 7 provinces reported new suspected cases, and the remaining 17 provinces reported no cases.
By 10:00 am May 11, 25 provinces have reported SARS cases. So far, Hainan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Qinghai provinces, Tibet and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions have not found any cases. Of the provinces having reported suspected or confirmed SARS cases, Heilongjiang Province still reports no diagnosed case; Shanghai, Anhui, Gansu, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan provinces and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region reported less than 10 diagnosed cases respectively; Chongqing, Zhejiang, Fujian, Liaoning, Jiangxi and Shandong provinces reported less than 5 diagnosed cases respectively. Fujian Province has reported no new case for 33 days; Huan Province has reported no new case for 20 days; Shandong Province has reported no new case for 17 days; Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has reported no new case for 9 days; Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has reported no new case for 8 days; Jiangxi Province has reported no new case for 7 days, Hubei Province has reported no new case for 5 days.
From 10:00 am May 10 to 10:00 am May 11, China reported 69 new cases, 32 patients recovered and 5 deaths. Of the 69 cases, 39 used to be suspected cases and now confirmed as SARS patients.
Of these figures:
Beijing reported 42 new cases (of which 21 used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), 11 patients recovered and 4 deaths
Tianjin reported 8 new cases (all of which used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients)
Hebei reported 9 new cases (of which 5 used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), 2 patients recovered
Shanxi reported 6 new cases (of which 3 used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), and 6 recovered
Inner Mongolia reported 2 recovered and 1 death
Jiangsu reported 1 new case (which used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients)
Henan reported 1 recovered
Guangdong reported 2 new cases (of which 1 used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients) and 9 recovered
Shaanxi reported 1 recovered
Gansu reported 1 new case
By 10:00 am May 11, China had a total of 4,948 SARS cases (935 medical workers), which included 1,652 patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital and 240 deaths. Now 3,056 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.
From 10:00 am May 10 to 10:00 am May 11, China also reported 145 new suspected cases, including 51 from Beijing, 9 from Tianjin, 4 from Hebei, 20 from Shanxi, 7 from Inner Mongolia, 3 from Liaoning, 2 from Shanghai, 1 each from Jiangsu, Anhui and Henan, 44 from Guangdong, and 1 each from Chongqing and Shaanxi.
From 10:00 am May 10 to 10:00 am May 11, China reported 73 misdiagnosed suspected cases, of which, 24 from Guangdong, 16 from Beijing, 9 from Tianjin, 8 from Shanxi, 3 each from Hebei, Inner Mongolia and Anhui, 2 each from Sichuan and Shaanxi, 1 each from Shanghai, Hubei and Gansu. By 10:00 am May 11, China had a total of 2,559 suspected cases.
