Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) has donated about 200,000 protective suits to the Red Cross Society of China to help medical workers in seven mainland areas fight severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
Ding Guoliang, director of the Beijing Branch of the HSBC, said on Wednesday that each suit comprises five parts: overalls, surgical mask, hood, gloves and a pair of shoe covers.
With a total value of two million HK dollars, the suits have been transferred to 80 designated hospitals in Guangdong, Shanxi and Hebei Provinces, Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin municipalities and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to protect medical workers at the frontline of the fight against SARS.
