Four new cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) were confirmed in Hong Kong Friday, none involving healthcare workers.
This was the 27th day in a row that Hong Kong's daily infection cases were in single digits.
According to a press release from the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority, the number of patients who have recovered and been discharged from hospitals rose to 1304. Of them, two were discharged Friday.
A 78-year-old woman died of SARS in Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, bringing to 274 the total number of deaths relating to SARS.
The number of SARS patients in intensive care unit dropped to a new low of 31 from 127 in mid-April.
These 31 cases are part of the 93 cases under treatment in hospitals. Most of the patients are showing positive responses to the treatment protocol, 65 of them are recovering patients in convalescence and in preparation for discharge.
