Rail Freight into Tibet to Exceed Goods Out
Adjust font size:

Commodities brought into Tibet along the newly completed Qinghai-Tibet Railway will exceed the goods exported from the region, a railway official said on Thursday.

Zhu Zhensheng, a vice-director of the Ministry of Railways office in charge of the new line, said two freight trains would run daily on the 1,956-km line from Xining, capital of Qinghai Province, to Lhasa, capital of Tibet Autonomous Region.

He said the trains would carry grain crops, construction materials as well as production and living necessities into Tibet, while handicrafts, agricultural and sideline products would travel out.

Zhu said the railway's designed capacity was enough to meet the freight demand.

He also said three passenger trains would depart daily from each end point, with each train carrying up to 900 passengers.
