Chinese actor Fu Biao has lost his battle with liver cancer. The popular comedian and character actor died last Tuesday morning in a Beijing Hospital at the age of 42. Fu Biao worked in obscurity for well over ten years until his big break in the film Shanghai Triad, directed by Zhang Yimou, in 1995. And his humorous portrayal in director Feng Xiaogang's new year celebration film Part A, Part B in 1997 helped him relaunch his career.
Hospital Vice President Zheng Jingchen said, "Fu Biao's liver cancer had reached an advanced stage. The tumor constricted the lung, forcing labored breathing. He passed away at half past nine this morning."
Known for vivid portrayals of scores of characters who mirrored ordinary people and a warm no-nonsense personality, Fu Biao enjoyed wide popularity among fans.
Fu's funeral was held at the Babaoshan Cemetery in Beijing last Thursday, where showbiz friends, as well as ordinary people, came to pay their respects.
The mourners greived over the early ending of a brilliant life. Fu Biao, the actor who had brought laughter to millions of households will always be remembered.
