Anyone familiar with modern Chinese literature likely knows the name Lu Xun. The writer is considered a literary giant from the first half of the last century. Lu Xun was a skilled translator and a pioneer of Chinese modern literature. Now a film chronicling the famous author's life has premiered in Beijing.
Lu Xun debuted at the Beijing Youth Palace on Monday. The film stars award-winning actors Pu Cunxin in the lead role, and Zhang Yu as Lu Xun's wife Xu Guangping. They appeared at the premiere along with director Ding Yinnan and Lu Xun's son Zhou Haiying.
The film focuses on the last three years of Lu Xun's life. Many Chinese are familiar with Lu Xun's literary achievements, as well as his deep, refined thoughts. But the movie also offers audiences a glimpse of the man's daily life. Lu Xun is portrayed not only as a literary pioneer, but also a kind father, a good husband and a respected teacher.
Lu Xun's Son Zhou Haiying said, "First, I was surprised about the make-up which made Pu look very like my father. Second, I'm very satisfied about his portrayal. He convincingly expresses my father's manner, personality."
Lu Xun went on general release on Friday.
