Hong Kong action films Election and Kung Fu Hustle are the most nominated movies in Taiwan's 42nd annual Golden Horse Film Festival, edging out the Taiwanese romance Three Times in the number of nominations, the festival's organizers announced Tuesday.
Most of the nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress are new faces at the awards. Three of the four candidates for Best Actor are first-time nominees.
All the women lined up for Best Actress are first-time nominees.
Last year's Best Actor, Andy Lau, starred in four films this year, none of which was nominated. The festival also overlooked Stanley Tong's The Myth, starring Stanley Tong.
Mainland Chinese films and actors also have a share on this year's nominee lists, including A World Without Thieves, up for Best Picture, and Chen Kun, nominee for the Best Actor award.
