Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Ka-fai was arrested for alleged drunk driving, his second arrest for the offense, after his car rammed another vehicle Saturday.
Leung was released on US$5,000 bail and is to report back to police November 28. No charges have been made. A police source said Leung's blood contained double the legal alcohol limit.
The accident happened when Leung, 47, was driving towards the Aberdeen Tunnel along Wong Chuk Hang Road in the evening. He failed to brake in time when a van in front of him slowed, hitting it. The 30-year-old driver suffered back injuries but was discharged after treatment.
Leung's agent said the accident would not affect Leung's work in coming months because, according to Hong Kong law, Leung is free to leave Hong Kong even if he's out on bail. Leung will still attend the Golden Horse awards ceremony in Taiwan and Golden Rooster in Hainan.
A source from the Golden Horse awards committee said Leung's personal activity had nothing to do with his performances in motion pictures, so the accident would not affect his competence for the awards.
However, a Hong Kong traffic policeman said Leung would probably go to court and be sentenced to public service work.
Leung was arrested for drunk driving in November 2002 and pleaded guilty in Eastern Court in January 2003 to drunk driving and assaulting a bus driver after a three-vehicle accident.
