The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) granted in Beijing Friday a "philanthropic ambassador" title to Chinese martial arts movie star Jet Li for his contribution to the education cause of youth.
At the debut ceremony of Jet Li's latest Kungfu movie Fearless, Li contributed 500,000 yuan (US$62,500) out of the box office to RCSC's psychological sunshine project.
The program initiated in 2004 helps college students learn psychological health knowledge and calls on the society to attend to psychological education.
Li contributed 500,000 yuan to the project in October last year and gave lectures at prestigious universities including Peking University, Sichuan University and Fudan University to share his life experience with college students.
"The project enables me to find a direction at last and know how to help those in need," said the martial arts master, who was born in Beijing, rose to fame in Hong Kong and secured a foothold in Hollywood.
He also planned to set up a fund with RCSC to assist China's disadvantaged groups.
