The Chinese film Dream Sheds Light on Reality, directed by and starring Xu Jinglei, has recently finished production. The screenwriter of the film is reported to be celebrated Chinese novelist Wang Shuo.
The producer of the film, Liu Xuan, confirmed the news. She also revealed that it is the first work from Wang Shuo after years of absence from the industry.
Though he hasn't had any new novels published in recent years, Wang has written several scripts for the big screen, including that of Days in the Palace, another film from Xu Jinglei.
But since the preparation work for that film was taking too long, Xu postponed the production to then complete Dream Sheds Lights on Reality in only three months.
The subheading of the film is "The dialogue between an actress and director one night."
The producer says Wang Shuo tailored the film especially for Xu Jinglei, shedding light on events that turned Xu from an actress to a director.
Dream Sheds Lights on Reality will be probably in Chinese cinemas by the end of June. If it follows its short schedule, it could be one of the most efficiently-made Chinese films in recent years.
