Good news for movie goers in China!
Winner of this year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the South African film Tsotsi, will be screened across the China's mainland starting next Monday.
The 94-minute film is a harsh but ultimately redemptive tale of a young gang leader who lives in a shantytown on the edge of Johannesburg, South Africa. Besides its Oscar, the film was also a winner at this year's Los Angeles American Film Institute in addition to wins at Toronto, Edinburgh and Salonika film festivals.
The China Film Group Corporation has announced that the film has been approved by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, adding that it was praised by censors, needing no amendments.
The debut of Tsotsi will make it the only 2006 Academy Award winning film allowed to enter the mainland market. Both Crash and Brokeback Mountain failed to pass China’s censors.
