Three Hong Kong top directors, Tsui Hark, Ringo Lam and Johnnie To, will join hands in an innovative action thriller with the working title Triangle.
Without discussing the plot beforehand, each of the three directors will take turns to shoot a different section of the film for around 30 minutes. When shooting is completed, the directors will decide how to put the segments together, like piecing together a jigsaw.
Unlike omnibus films such as Three and Three...Extremes - each of which is composed of three separate stories, Triangle will be presented as one film with the three parts pieced together. The innovative Hong Kong-set picture is believed to be the first of its kind in Asia.
Tsui, who last year directed martial arts drama Seven Swords, will be the first to start shooting before the end of July. Lam, whose 1987 City on Fire was reportedly an inspiration for Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, will then take over the shooting before passing on to To to complete the story.
Hong Kong actors Simon Yam and Louise Koo, both of which appear in To's gangster drama Election and Election 2, are attached to star in the new picture together with Chinese mainland actor Sun Honglei, last seen as the general in Seven Swords.
