Renowned Chinese director Chen Kaige will start shooting The Promise in Beijing on Monday. The movie is a big budget in terms of its multi-million dollar investment and star-studded cast.

The filmmaker has the Cannes winning picture Farewell My Concubine and Hollywood movie Killing Me Softly to his credit, and will shoot the first scenes of his new film at the Beijing Film Studio.
