Clothes, tents and money were urgently needed for people plagued by floods in Guangdong, the civil affairs bureau in Shenzhen and Red Cross said Wednesday.
The victims, left homeless by floods, are also in desperate need of food -- including grains, biscuits and instant noodles -- and medicine to cure respiratory diseases and intestine infections.
More than 3 million people in the province were affected by flooding that began in the middle of June.
The Red Cross accepts bulk donations of medicine, food and clothes, directly from factories.
The Red Cross will not accept individual donations of used clothes as it does not have facilities to have clothes sterilized.
The civil affairs bureau opened its seven donation centers Wednesday, one in each district and a municipal donation center to accept clothes, bedding, and tents.
Relatively new second-hand clothes are also acceptable as the centers can sterilize them.
Interested parties and individuals could call the city's donation center at 2583-1639.
The two agencies also publicized their bank accounts for donors.
