Ancestral Temple for Wen Tianxiang

The ancestral temple is located at No.63 Fuxue Hutong, Dongchen District, Beijing. It was built in memory of Wen Tianxiang, a hero in South Song Dynasty who fought bravely against the enemies of Yuan Empire. Based on the place where Wen Tianxiang was imprisoned, the temple has preserved the architectural style of Ming Dynasty.

The ancestral temple is composed of the main gate, the corridor and the hall, covering an area of 600 square meters. Some precious cultural relics have been preserved in the hall, such as the stone tablets about Wen Tianxiang. Besides that, Wen Tianxiang life experience exhibition gives a detailed introduction to his major heroic deeds, such as studying when young, being an officer when in his prime, gathering the soldiers to fight against the invasion of Yuan Empire, being captured and killed by the enemies etc. Inside the hall, there is a folding screen, on which Mao Zedong wrote the famous poem which goes to such an extent:  No one will be spared by death, but brave heart remains to serve the country. On the back of the screen, there is the full version of Wen Tianxiang's poem entitled Laud to Moral Spirit.
