Zhang Ning defeated Mia Audina of the Netherlands 8-11, 11-6 and 11-7 to win the women's badminton singles final at the 28th Olympic Games Thursday afternoon.

Her victory gave China the first gold medal from the sport in Athens Olympics.

In the bronze medal match earlier Thursday morning, Zhou Mi of China defeated her teammate Gong Ruina 11-2, 8-11 and 11-6.
