Spring Bud Project

The Spring Bud Project has been launched, organized and carried out by the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF), under the leadership of the All China Women's Federation. The goal of the plan is to assist girls of poor areas of China to return to school, which will benefit the welfare of the whole society.

In china due to social and cultural uneven development, especially due to the influence of the traditional values, there are still illiterates and among them 2/3 are women. The dropout girls consist more than 2/3 of the whole dropouts.

Today's girls are future mothers. The quality of mothers affects the quality of the whole Chinese nation. Since, in order to raise women's quality, we have to begin from the education of the girls. To implement the Spring Bud Project and help girls to return to school is a basic engineering to raise the nation's quality and hence benefit our future generations. It is also a vital step to fulfill and consolidate the 9-year compulsory education and eliminate illiteracy among the young and middle-aged. With a view to strengthen quality education and to cultivate the Spring Bud girls to obtain some skills and to be self-reliant so that they will be able to help to build their homeland, the CCTF has established a special fund to run technical training courses.

By the early 1999, the Spring Bud Project has been carried out in all over China, 220 million RMB has been collected, and 900,000 drop-out girls have been helped back to school.

It's hoped that the Spring Bud Project will receive support and kind and generous donations from organizations and individuals both home and abroad.
