Turkey to Send Another Relief Team to Indonesia

Turkey will send another relief team to tsunami-hit Indonesia, the semi-official Anatolia News Agency reported Wednesday.

Seyit Karaca, chairman of Executive Board of Private Selcuklu Hospital, said the team, consisting of three doctors and two employees, will provide aids for tsunami survivors in Sumatra island of Indonesia.

The team will leave for Aceh region of Indonesia on Wednesday and stay there for one month. The doctors will provide medical care to survivors and the other two officials will serve hot meals to 1,200 people daily, the chairman said.

The health and food assistance is worth 50,000 US dollars, he added.

Death toll of the unprecedented disaster has reached over 150,000 since an 8.7-magnitude underwater earthquake struck off the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Dec. 26 and triggered tsunamis which battered the coastlines of the Indian Ocean.

Turkish Foreign Ministry said Turkey has offered tsunami-hit countries aids valued at about 9 million dollars, and a rescue team has already been sent to disaster areas.
