The Indonesian geophysics agency has recorded 2,655 aftershocks in Aceh Province since a tsunami triggered by a 9-magnitude quake swept through the province on Dec.26, 2004.
Syahnan, head of Aceh geophysics agency, said Wednesday the aftershocks included 635 tremors measuring between 4 and 5.6 on the Richter scale.
In January alone, the agency recorded 1,149 aftershocks, Syahnan was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying.
He said the aftershocks were centered beneath the sea, located at 80 km to 230 km west of Aceh.
