Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with chief executives of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Macao SAR respectively in Beijing on Wednesday.
During his meeting with Donald twang, chief executive of the Hong Kong SAR, Wen said twang has made a great deal of substantial, pragmatic effort to promote the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong after assuming the post of HKSAR Chief Executive half years ago.
Hong Kong's overall situation is good, featuring sustained economic growth and social stability, and some deep-rooted problems are yet to be resolved, said Wen.
He expressed the hope that the Hong Kong SAR government and all walks of life in Hong Kong would make concerted efforts to focus on economic growth and improvement of people's livelihood and maintaining social stability.
The central government will go on giving its wholeheartedly support to the HKSAR government's administration in accordance with law and implement necessary policies and measures to enhance exchanges and cooperation between Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.
When meeting with Edmund Ho Hau Wah, the chief executive of the Macao SAR, Wen fully affirmed the efforts made by Ho and his SAR government, saying that Macao's economy has continued to grow, and the social situation remains stable and harmonious.
He encouraged the Macao SAR government and Macao people to achieve overall social and economic progress.
Vice-Premier Wu Yi, State Councilors Tang Jiaxuan and Hua Jianmin, and Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Liao Hui were, among others, present at both meetings.
