A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official has called for the incorporation the "socialist concept of honor and disgrace" as described by CPC General Secretary and President Hu Jintao into textbooks in a bid to better popularize the concept across the country.
Liu Yunshan, member of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the appeal at a symposium on Friday.
He said great time and energy should be placed on advocating this concept in the classrooms and creating a sound atmosphere for the public to study the meaning of the concept and learn how to tell right from wrong, good from evil and beauty from ugliness.
The Publicity Department issued a circular recently and called for a thorough study of this concept nationwide through various medias and to apply it to every social sector.
Hu Jintao raised the concept when meeting with members of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's political advisory body, on March 4.
The concept, which underscores the value of patriotism, hard work and plain living, belief in science, consciousness of serving the people, solidarity, honesty and credibility, and observation of the law, is a perfect amalgamation of traditional Chinese values and modern virtues, according to Liu.
