China's top legislature on Saturday adopted a resolution to expel two deputies to National People's Congress (NPC) for their discipline violations.
The two ousted NPC deputies are Peng Zhenkun, former president of the Hubei Institute for Nationalities and member of the Agriculture Committee of the NPC, and Du Chongyan, former head of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture of Tujia and Miao Nationalities in central China's Hunan Province.
Du shouldered "leadership responsibility" for the bridge collapse on Aug. 13 this year, which killed 64 people and injured 22 others.
The bridge ran over the Tuojiang River in Fenghuang County in Hunan. The 328-meter-long, 42-meter-high structure was still under construction at the time of accident.
A government statement after investigation said the collapse was a severe man-made accident.
