Wu Xinxiong was re-elected as the governor of Jiangxi Province and Su Rong the provincial top legislator on Monday at a session of the Jiangxi Provincial People's Congress, the provincial legislature.

Wu, born in 1949 as a native of eastern Jiangsu Province, has been in the post since January 2007.

The provincial governor is head of the provincial government responsible for the economic, political, personnel, environmental and foreign affairs issues of the province. He ranks second in the province behind the secretary of the provincial committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Su Rong, born in 1948 in the northeast Jilin Province, has been the Communist Party chief of Jiangxi since November 2007.

Jiangxi has a population of around 41 million and covers an area of 166,600 square kilometers. It is dubbed as the cradle of the modern Chinese revolution led by the CPC. The early CPC leaders built the first rural revolutionary base in the Jinggangshan Mountains in the province in 1927.
