A ceremony to pay tribute to all members of the Hong Kong Police Force and Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force who have given their lives in the line of duty was held at the Police Headquarters Tuesday morning.
Commissioner of Police Tsang Yam-pui, and representative from major formations and associations attended the ceremony.
Tsang said the Police Force, which boosts a strength of 28,000 officers as well as a compliment of 4,400 Auxiliary colleagues, holds a long and proud history and has successfully confronted many challenges in the past 158 years.
"This success can be attributed directly to the dedication and fortitude of all those who have served past and present," he said.
Tsang noted that time and time again police officers confront danger as well as the uncertainty of whether their duty to protect and serve will place them in harm's way.
They, however, willingly accept the challenge in order to achieve what the community demands: a peaceful, stable Hong Kong, Tsang said.
After observing a two-minute silence in memory of the all the police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, Tsang laid a wreath on behalf of the Force at the Memorial Books near Caine House of the Police Headquarters.
Other wreaths were laid by Commandant of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force Kwok Chi-shun and representatives from major police formations and associations.
