The election of the deputies of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) will be conducted in an open, fair and just manner, and in strict accordance with the law.
Secretary-General of the Standing Committee of the NPC He Chunlin made the remarks at the first meeting of the Conference for Electing Deputies of the HKSAR to the 10th NPC held here Friday.
"The election will be held in strict accordance with the Constitution of the People's Republic of China, the Basic Law of the HKSAR and the election methods for electing deputies of the HKSAR to the 10th National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China," He stressed.
Moreover, the election will proceed by giving full play to democracy, and in an open, fair and just manner, the secretary-general noted.
According to He Chunlin, the election is designed to elect Chinese citizens in the HKSAR, who love both Hong Kong and the country, adhere to the principle of "One Country, Two Systems" and abide by the Basic Law, as NPC deputies to represent the HKSAR to partake in the work of China's top organ of state power.
