Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji spoke highly of the operation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government here Tuesday while meeting with HKSAR Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa.
Zhu Rongji said that Tung, who is serving his second term as chief executive of the HKSAR, and his government have made great efforts to overcome Hong Kong's economic difficulties and reduce people's burdens.
Zhu pledged that the Chinese Central Government will, as always, fully support the SAR government led by Tung in governance according to law.
He said he hoped the SAR government will calmly cope with the existing difficulties and problems, and steadfastly safeguard Hong Kong’s economic and financial stability and social stability.
The premier expressed his belief that as long as the SAR government and people from all walks of life bring into full play and build up Hong Kong's advantages, enhance their confidence and work hard, Hong Kong will surely enjoy more promising prospects.
Tung briefed Premier Zhu on Hong Kong's current social and economic development and the work of the SAR government.
