Liu Xiaoqing, a leading Chinese movie star of 1980s who has already been put under police custody, is found guilty that her companies had evaded more than 14.5 million yuan (US$1.74 million) worth of taxes since 1996, said the State Taxation Administration.
Taxation authorities ordered Liu to pay some 5.73 million yuan as punishment for delaying paying the taxes, apart from demanding the overdue tax payment. To date, authorities have recovered nearly 2 million yuan worth of taxes that Liu owed and frozen 2.14 million yuan worth of her bank deposits.
