Procuratorates Urged to Safeguard Judicial Justice

A senior government official has called for stepping up legal supervision and safeguarding justice and fairness, so as to create a harmonious and stable social environment and a fair and efficient law environment for building a well-off society in an all-around way.

Luo Gan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau and secretary of the Political Science and Law Committee of the CPC Central Committee, made the appeal Monday at a national conference attended by provincial-level procurators.

Over the past year, the procuratorates at all levels have faithfully accomplished their duties endorsed by the Constitution and law by focusing on the general concerns of the Party and the state, Luo said.

He urged procurators to continue cracking down on severe crimes that have been threatening public security while constantly improving the mechanism of the Strike Hard Campaign, in a bid to further improve the country's public security situation.

Jia Chunwang, procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, also spoke at the meeting, calling for the building of an army of procurators who are politically firm, professionally skillful, well-behaved, and just and fair.

Also present were Zhou Yongkang, a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, and Xiao Yang, president of the Supreme People's Court.
