Adjust font size:

China will, as always, strengthen cooperation with all relevant parties, and continue to play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, said Gu Xiulian, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC).

When meeting with visiting Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea Lee Yong-hee in Beijing on Thursday, Gu said to maintain peace and stability on the peninsula is China's basic principle in handling the Korean Peninsula issue.

Gu also vowed to strengthen cooperation between the political parties and parliaments of the two countries, saying the Chinese side will further enhance exchanges and cooperation in these fields and promote the China-South Korea all-round partnership of cooperation.

Lee, leading a delegation of members of South Korean National Assembly from various parties, is invited by the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee for a five-day visit in China.

In another development, Gu also met with former Chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Denmark Mogens Lykketoft here on Thursday.
