Georgian, Russian Foreign Ministers Agree to Meet Early November
Adjust font size:

Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov agreed to meet in Moscow early November, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

"The parties agreed that, during Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili's visit to Moscow to take part in a ministerial meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation organization on November 1-2, he will meet with his Russian counterpart," it said.

Irakly Toronjadze, the director of the Foreign Ministry department dealing with relations with Russia, will also visit Moscow, along with Bezhuashvili to hold consultations with his Russian counterparts, it said.

The brief detention of four Russian military officers in Georgia on spying charges late last month triggered strong protest from Moscow and added to an already tense relationship between Russia and Georgia.

Amid the spying row, Russia slapped economic sanctions on the Caucasus nation and deported Georgians accused of staying in Russia illegally.
