Israeli warplanes on Tuesday violated the Lebanese airspace and broke sound barriers over the Lebanese Capital of Beirut and other major cities, the official NNA news agency reported.
Israeli fighters Tuesday afternoon flew over Beirut, the northern port city of Tripoli and some other towns, and broke sound barriers over the areas, causing panic among local people.
Also in the day, the Lebanese resistance guerrilla group Hezbollah, or Party of God, fired to Israeli planes flying into south Lebanon, but missed the targets.
Israeli warplanes have repeatedly violated Lebanon's airspace since its troops withdrew from south Lebanon in May 2000, ending a 22-year occupation.
Lebanon, which virtually has no ability to defend its airspace, often lodges protest against Israel's overflight with the United Nations.
