Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) George Robertson announced Thursday in Prague that NATO has decided to invite seven central and eastern European countries for membership.

Robertson announced the NATO's decision at the beginning of the two-day summit meeting. The seven invitees are Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia.

There are altogether 10 candidate countries aspiring for NATO membership. Macedonia, Albania and Croatia would have to wait for the next round of NATO membership expansion.
