Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji sent a congratulatory message to the Government of Sri Lanka Wednesday on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the signing of a trade pact between the two countries.
In his message, Zhu said that the historical Rice and Rubber Pact, which was signed five decades ago by China and Sri Lanka after removing one hurdle after another, testifies the friendly ties between the two countries.
Zhu said he believed that the spirit of mutual trust and support between China and Sri Lanka that was demonstrated by the pact is bound to be carried forward, thus making great contribution to the further development of Sino-Sri Lankan friendly cooperation.
Shi Guangsheng, minister of the Foreign Trade Ministry, also sent greetings on the occasion.
