Gunmen Attack Truck, Kill 12 in South Philippines
At least 12 persons were killed and nine wounded on Thursday in an ambush of a truck in southern Philippines on Thursday, according to reports reaching here.

The truck was ambushed by a group of unidentified gunmen in Zamboanga del Norte province on the island of Mindanao, some 800 km south of Manila, the reports said.

Although the identity of the perpetrators of the ambush and their motive are not immediately known, the area has long been plagued by violent acts of rebels fighting for an independent Muslim state in the mainly Roman Catholic country.
