Both China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) stand for peacefully resolving the nuclear issue in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) through dialogue, so as to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Saturday.
Spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remark when asked about a phone conversation Saturday between Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and ROK Foreign Minister Choi Sung-hong.
Tang and Choi exchanged new year greetings and views on bilateral relations and other issues of common interest, the spokesman said.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the progress in China-ROK ties this year, the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, and hoped bilateral exchanges and cooperation would be strengthened in the new year, Liu said.
