China Concerned About Violence in Phnom Penh
China is gravely concerned about the violence in Cambodia and hopes the issue can be resolved as soon as possible, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Thursday after Cambodian protesters set the Thai Embassy on fire Wednesday in Phnom Penh.

Zhang said China was worried about the impact of the violence on relations between Cambodia and Thailand, which are both friendly neighbors of China, and hoped the matter could be settled very soon.

Cambodian protesters set the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh on fire Wednesday after they entered the embassy to protest against a Thai movie star's reported comment that the world-renowned Angkor Wat temple belonged to Thailand. The actress denied the reports.

Some Thai diplomats in Phnom Penh retreated to Thailand on a military plane Thursday.
