A senior Chinese official has expressed confidence in the prospect of the friendly relations between his country and Tanzania being strengthened as the leaders of both countries are taking an active interest in the development of bilateral ties.
Li Ruihuan, visiting chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks when meeting with Zanzibar President Amani Abeid Karume on Monday in Zanzibar.
Li said the friendly cooperation between China and Zanzibar is an important part of the Sino-Tanzanian relationship and the cooperation has been consolidating along with the sustained development of Sino-Tanzanian cooperation.
He reiterated China will continue its assistance to Tanzania and contribute to the African country's economic development and social progress.
Li also expressed appreciation for Karume's efforts to uphold the political system of the united republic to maintain political stability while boosting economic recovery and development in Zanzibar.
Karume recalled his successful visit to China in August 2002, saying he was deeply impressed by what he saw and heard in China.
He thanked the Chinese government for its support for Zanzibar over the years, adding his government is ready to expand bilateral cooperation with China in various fields.
