Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, on Friday sent Mohammad Mian Soomro, the new speaker of Pakistan's upper house, a congratulatory message on his inauguration.
Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan 52 years ago, the two countries have become close and friendly neighbors and "have scored fruitful achievements" in developing equal and mutually-beneficial cooperation in various fields, Li said.
"Parliaments of our two countries have maintained friendship and close interactions over years, which has become an important part of Sino-Pakistan friendship," Li stressed.
"I am convinced that the friendly cooperation between our two countries in general and the two parliaments in particular will be further deepened and developed with joint efforts of the two sides," he added.
Pakistan's Senate elected Soomro as its Chairman on Wednesday afternoon.
