Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan reiterated China's three-point position on the Korean peninsula nuclear issue at a regular press conference here Thursday.
Kong said China has always held that the Korean Peninsula should be nuclear-free, the peninsula's peace and stability should be maintained, and the problems that have arisen should be solved peacefully through dialogue.
China adopts an active and open attitude towards any proposal or suggestion that is conducive to non-nuclearization as well as peace and stability on the peninsula, he said.
Kong said the most important thing at the moment is that the concerned parties commence dialogue as soon as possible. "The earlier, the better," he said.
He said China has been appealing to all the parties for them to remain calm and to refrain from any action that could exacerbate the situation. China has been in contact with all the parties, Kong said.
