China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have enhanced understanding, trust, friendship and cooperation in recent years through high-level visits and timely communication on major issues, President Hu Jintao said in Beijing Tuesday.
Hu was meeting with Jo Myong-rok, first deputy chairman of the DPRK Defence Commission and director-general of the Political Bureau of the Korean People's Army. He said the two nations, their leading parties and peoples have established a profound friendship during their long revolutionary struggle and socialist construction.
The friendship, created and fostered by past leaders, has withstood the test of time and is now deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples, said Hu.
Hu, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said the development of bilateral relations has also been helped by military exchanges.
The CPC and Chinese Government treasure their relationship with the DPRK and are willing to further the good-neighborly and friendly cooperative ties with their DPRK comrades.
Jo Myong-rok said the DPRK and China's friendship has withstood the tests of blood and fire.
The DPRK values its relationship with China and is determined to enhance friendly bilateral relations, said Jo Myong-rok.
