Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee arrived at the Capital International Airport in Beijing on Sunday evening, starting a six-day official visit to China as guest of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.
It is the first visit to China by an Indian Prime Minister in the last 10 years.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed Vajpayee, who was followed by Indian senior officials, 40 entrepreneurs and 60 journalists, at the airport.
Chinese leaders will meet with Vajpayee and the Indian Prime Minister will give two speeches during the visit, sources with the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
A series of documents are expected to be signed during the visit.
Besides Beijing, Vajpayee is scheduled to visit other Chinese cities as well.
Vajpayee visited China in 1979, as the then Indian Foreign Minister.
