China firmly opposes proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), said Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui in Beijing Wednesday.
Zhang made the remarks at a reception to mark the issue of a white paper on China's Non-Proliferation Policy and Measures, which was attended by more than 300 Chinese officials, foreign diplomats, and reporters.
Zhang said China has made unremitting efforts to build a regime of export control of WMD, and has cooperated with other countries to prevent the proliferation of WMD.
Together with the rest of the international community, Zhang said, China will continue contributing to the global non-proliferation endeavor.
The State Council Information Office published earlier Wednesday the white paper, the first of its kind elaborating China's policy, on the non-proliferation issue.
