At Least Two Killed as Building Collapses in Central Turkey

At least two people were killed as a 10-storey apartment building collapsed in the central Turkish city of Konya on Monday, the local private NTV channel reported.

Turkish sources earlier told Xinhua that a two-year-old child was killed and 25 people had been pulled out of the debris alive.

Some 100 people were estimated in the 40-flat building when it collapsed, according to the sources.

Many soldiers have rushed to the scene to join the rescue effort, combing through the debris for more survivors.

The building collapsed at around 8:30 pm (1830 GMT) Monday and the cause of the incident was not clear.
